Excellent Training!

I attended this three day training to be a grant reviewer for the Office of Head Start.  It was exciting, educational and very much worth my time.  The accomodation was sublime. The training itself was intensive. Day one was from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and day two was from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The third day was a half day. However, once the training was over, I was able to explore the area. It is such a beautiful part of Washington, DC and the weather was gorgeous.  Not a cloud in the sky until the third day when it rained a little bit.  My purpose for writing about this experience is a reminder of the importance of continuing education in order for growth and development to occur.  As teachers, providers and people working with children, we need to step out of the classroom every once in a while to explore new ideas or reacquaint ourselves with old ones.  It's such a refreshing change in routine that you come back a little more excited, motivated and renewed.  Unfortunately, there's not enough of that taking place, especially with small day care and home day care programs. I would hope that providers keep this in mind when determining their schedule for the year and include professional development days.
